This 100% handloomed reusable wine/spirit bag will definitely make the next bottle you bring to dinner that much more special. It was designed with the act of gifting wine or spirits in mind but can decorate a bottle in a bar, kitchen, living room etc. It's use isn't exclusively for alcohol either. Use it to store virtually anything in the open while making a beautiful and thoughtful conversation piece.
The bag's textile is first loomed, stitched together and then embroidered - all by hand using traditional techniques and equipment (no electricity). A handmade cord with a pom and tassel serve as a decorative tie to secure the bag around its contents.
This line of bags comes from a talented group of Maya (Tzoztil) women (Lumal Jolokil) which is lead by the very special Juana Gomez de la Torre. Together with her mother, Juana distributes work throughout her community to share the opportunities that orders bring. Working closely with Ivan and Lydia, she is a talented designer and loomer and carries the weight of her people on her back.
Other women contributors are:
Diana
Petrona
Juana (another Juana)
Gloria
Conchita

Biulu Artisan Boutique is an Indigenous owned 'for-profit business with a purpose'. The objective is to source, unite and provide sustainable economic opportunities to Indigenous artisans throughout the Americas. Three main target areas are 1) Single mothers 2) Politically displaced (i.e. by land sale, industrial invasion/forced to leave by force and/or environmental degradation caused by industry and 3) Vulnerable women who would otherwise fall into illicit forms of employment such as prostitution or otherwise into domestic servitude out of economic desperation.
Where YOUR money goes: The company pays the artisans well above local market price and Ivan and Lydia pay directly to the people. There are no intermediaries.
The way we see it: This is about saving an important part of human history while providing ongoing support to individuals and communities that need help. Biulu Artisan Boutique is a place where our collective voices can be heard and dreams can be achieved by helping to realize a more equitable distribution of resources around the world.
